I teach the 10-11 year olds in church and I wasn't prepared for my lesson today. I had planned on reading it over during sacrament meeting, but Brooke's diaper exploded before they even started the announcements. We're studying the Doctrine and Covenants and Church History and today's lesson was pretty intense. It was about Governor Bogg's extermination order and Haun's Mill. I pretty much just read the stories out of the book, and when I was done I apologized for doing so much reading. But one of the boys (my class is 5 boys and 1 girl) said, "That's okay, it was nice to hear the stories." They were all pretty attentive while they were listening and we talked a bit about why the members of the Church were being persecuted and politics at the time, which they seemed interested in. It turns out that sometimes they actually do have the ability to focus.
What I learned? Never underestimate the power of a child's mind.
