Boyd K. Packer

I saw this quote and thought it had a great visual, so I made this.

Sane Parenting

I've had this thought rolling around in my mind for that past while, and it solidified into an idea when I mentioned it to my cousin. We were talking about our kids and being Moms (which all moms talk about with other mom friends, I've decided. It's the one thing we can all relate with each other) and different parenting styles when I realized this: The right parenting is the one that keeps you sane.

Short of abusing your kids, because that is not sanity-induced, whatever parenting methods keep you sane are the right ones.

If attachment parenting keeps you sane, you're doing it right.

If Babywise keeps you sane, you're doing it right.

If mixing those two keeps you sane, you're doing it right.

If playing it by ear keeps you sane, you're doing it right.

If being a helicopter parent keeps you sane, you're doing it right.

I could go on and on, but when it comes down to it your sanity is what enables you to be a good parent. When you are constantly frustrated, angry, sleep-deprived and feel out of control your kids will feel it and bear the brunt of it. We all feel that way sometimes because our kids are constantly changing and learning, but constant stress is not healthy. So do what keeps you sane. We are not perfect. But sanity is something achievable. Usually.

We live!

I have internet at home now!

Seriously, it's been like living in the 90s. We had no internet. Nothing. When I was bored I went outside to pick weeds or did dishes or... was productive.

Maybe not having internet was a good thing. A good, but also frustrating thing.
  • I had little to no contact with my friends who are scattered across the country.
  •  We couldn't look up ANYTHING. And EVERYTHING in this day and age is online.
  •  I kept on wanting to watch something on Netflix, or look up where to get fishing licenses, or where the local DMV is, and I couldn't unless I toted Brooke down to the library and scanned the web while praying she would sleep or not fuss until I was done. It was stressful.
But that is now over and done, for better or for worse.

We also got our new couches! Hooray! They are really comfortable. It's so nice to have a place to sit other then our kitchen chairs.

So far I really like it here.
