I have so much to say, but I want to make sure I get it a little chronologically, and I really wanted to start with a travel log (travelogue?) of our trip from Idaho to Savannah. I took notes on the trip and everything. :) Some of them are random, like saw a herd of antelope, or passed more roadkill. Others are pretty mundane, like, gassed up here, there, everywhere. But I figured I would like to keep a record of what we did, so here it is:
Mon. Dec. 27
8:15 AM
-Jeremy and his Dad went to pick up moving truck, Kaylene (Jeremy's Dad's wife) and I went to Walmart to get a few cleaning supplies and breakfast.
-Budget didn't have the 16 foot truck we had registered for a month before, so we got a free upgrade to a 24 foot truck instead.
-Our home teacher came over and helped load the truck. My upstairs neighbor Kristen came down and helped Kaylene and I clean the apartment.
-The tow dolly Budget gave us was broken, so we got a free upgrade to a car trailer.
12:30 PM
-Leave for Malad.
2:00 PM
-Arrive in Malad
-Have lunch with Dad and Kaylene, Jeremy plays one last game of raquetball with Dad.
-Go over to Mom's to pick up 100 lbs. of beef.
-Say good bye to Mom and Jeremy's little brother Josh.
4:30 PM
-Leave Malad.
-Take I-15 to I-84 to I-80. We're going to be on I-80 for a looong time.
-Stopped for the night in Rawlins, WY. The Best Western there had the softest bed, comforter and pillows I have every slept in. It was amazing.
Tues. Dev. 28
7:30 AM
-Best Western has a hot breakfast with eggs, hash browns, sausage, biscuits and gravy (my favorite).
8:10 AM
-On the road again. I drove from Rawlins to Cheyenne.
9:18 AM
-Saw a herd of antelope, there were at least a dozen. I don't get to see them very often, so I thought it was neat.
-Passed the rock and the tree monument, and the bust of Lincoln passing into Nebraska. There was also an enormous statue of the Madonna right across the border in Nebraska.
-Around 2 PM we stopped in Kearney, Nebraska for gas and to stop at Walmart and see if they had a charger for my phone. Worst stop imaginable for a big truck with a trailer. We had to drive 7 miles into town with stop lights every 100 yards. But we got my charger.
8:00 PM
-Left I-80 (yay!) for Nebraska Hwy 2 to Nebraska City.
9:00 PM
-Stopped for the night in Nebraska City
Wed. Dec. 29
8:40 AM
-On the road. It was so foggy that we crossed the Missouri River and didn't even know it.
-Spent 5 minutes in Iowa.
-When we got past Kansas City I noticed a lot of road kill, and they looked like dogs, which I thought was sad. Jeremy told me they were deer. I told him there was no way they could be deer, they were so tiny. Apparently out east the white tail deer are only about 80 pounds, so they're about the size of a large dog. Wimps.
3:00 PM
-Stopped in Chesterfield, MO to see Tara, Colby and Eden. Had lunch and got adjusted by the chiropractor in training. Thanks Colby!
5:00 PM
-Back on the road, drove through St. Louis. Entered Illinois, and the treeline got a lot thicker. Again, we missed the crossing over the Mississippi River because of the fog.
8:30 PM
-Filled up in Metropolis, IL, saw Superman. A really big statue of Superman.
11:30 PM
-Stopped for the night in Murfreesboro, TN, outside of Nashville. Drove past a lot of signs for the Grand Ole Opry.
Thurs. Dec. 30
7:30 AM
-On I-24 S to Chattanooga, TN, home of the Chattanoog Choo Choo, and then on to Georgia!
-Saw a neat billboard in Tennessee: "This is the land of opportunity, not the land of entitlement."
10:00 AM
-Drove through Georgia for 2 miles, but it doesn't count.
11:18 AM
-Georgia! We made it! Just 6 hours to go.
5:30 PM
-Arrived at our house in Savannah, Georgia in the Isle of Hope area.
The drive took longer than we thought it would, but we also got a late start leaving Idaho because of all the things that Budget did wrong. At least the upgrades were free. It wasn't too bad of a drive, but I'm not looking forward to doing it again in two and a half years. Maybe we'll fly.
